A Bad Date
His lack of self-awareness was incredible
Once upon a time, I was single.
Well, twice upon a time, with a 20 year marriage in between. This tale takes place in the second of those two periods.
I was using various dating sites.
For the most part, I found the men respectful. Even if we weren’t interested in each other, we were at least civilized.
I always met for coffee for a first date, for several reasons.
There was a coffee shop less than a mile from my house. If my spidey senses tingled — I could be out of there and home in less than 5 minutes. It was also a convenient location for me and the wait staff knew me. Plus it was a friendly, quirky place. There was art on the walls, cool music, and some unique coffee drinks we could talk about if we had nothing else to discuss.
Finally, it took the pressure off the guy in terms of paying for the date. Most men would offer to cover the bill, so I’d stick with just drip coffee, nothing fancy. That minimized his cost. If he wanted to split the bill, it meant I wasn’t out much either.
Like I said, most of my first dates were either positive or neutral from my point of view. But of course there were a few negative ones.
