A Christian Response to Coronavirus

God tells us not to fear. Maybe we should listen to Him.

My mother is turning 80 in a few weeks. She has diabetes. She’s at high risk for Coronavirus, yet today she is calmly making bread.

I heard her cough this morning and I freaked out.

“Are you feeling OK?” I asked.

“I’m fine,” she said. “Don’t get scared, and don’t scare me.”

She’s right.

The thing is, we all cough every now and again. Our throats are dry or we need to clear them. One cough in isolation is not a reason to panic.

My church has taken steps to protect congregants who are at risk. I talk about it here:

This is wise. What is not wise is panic.

The CDC recommends having 30 days worth of supplies on hand, just in case. That seems prudent. I regularly keep 2 weeks worth as a precaution. I used to live in Colorado and getting snowed in was something that happened.
