Addiction Destroys Lives
But addicts still deserve compassion
I was recently told by someone that there was something wrong with me because I felt sorry for a mother whose child had died due to her negligence.
Here is the original story:
Here was my response which the respondent objected to:
What a beautiful child and what a tragic event. I feel sorry for the mother but honestly, she is responsible for the child’s death. This also shows how alcoholism wrecks families. If Mom wasn’t a fricking alcoholic, that beautiful child would be alive today. Hopefully she will learn from this and get the help she needs to overcome her addiction.
It was to this that someone responded by telling me there was something wrong with me for feeling sorry for the mother.
However, I never claim the mother is not responsible. She absolutely is. And I believe she deserved to be punished under the law for the death.
However, I am a Christian and I believe in both justice and mercy. I can desire this woman to pay…
