All I can say is…. I voted for Andrew Yang. There are several compelling cases for why UBI makes sense.
That being said… the Dems are not the good guys while the GOP is bad in this — both sides have good and bad ideas and people. Josh Hawley and several Republicans have been calling for more money to help small businesses and the unemployed, and Nancy Pelosi originally held up the CARE act because she wanted to add special interest spending to the bill.
I am fairly cynical when it comes to politicians. People who think that Obama wasn’t a politician, for example… the fact is, money rules the political process and there are reasons that our politicians write laws that favor Wall Street. This last CARE act gave average people $1200, it gave an insufficient amount to help small businesses, but Wall Street and larger companies got taken care of. It’s because big money talks and politicians listen, regardless of what party they belong to.
On both sides you occasionally get someone who wants to stand up to the special interests… it’s just that the powers that be fight tooth and nail to stay in power. That’s why the Dems have Biden as the presumptive nominee instead of someone like Bernie or AOC or Andrew Yang or Tulsi Gabbard… and why Trump winning was so amazing.
Not that I like Trump, but at least he’s different from the typical flavor-of-the-month Republican.
