Anti-Cancer Diet — Mackerel
It’s high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are powerful cancer fighters
Fish oils, particularly DHA, are a key component in the fight against cancer. Since I’ve been diagnosed with cancer, I’ve been supplementing with these; however, I’m a big believer in getting nutrients from actual food as much as possible, not just from pills.
So I’ll spend time in the sun every day instead of just taking a vitamin D pill. And I try to get a wide range of vegetables in my diet to cover all the bases.
Unfortunately, when it comes to natural sources of omega-3 fatty acids, I don’t like some of the options. I have tried several times to like sardines, but even when I made them the Alton Brown way, I didn’t like them. Same for anchovies and herring, which are also great sources of omega-3s.
I like oysters, but they are far too expensive for me these days.
I thought that left me with only two good options according to this list, salmon and cod liver oil. While I would never call cod liver oil tasty, I can manage to get it down as a supplement. However, that only left me with salmon as a good food source that is super high in omega-3s. Tuna, which I love, only has about a quarter of the amount of these fats as salmon, though it is a better source of protein.
