So I wrote an article recently about how the Chinese are quarantining young children apart from their parents. This includes infants as young as three months. The quarantine facilities are very bare bones and understaffed. One mother reported that after 16 days in quarantine, her toddler was returned to her with a 104 degree fever and a non-stop cough.

Video of a ward for toddlers showed 3 or 4 per bed, wailing for comfort with NO ADULTS to check on them. Another ward shown on Chinese social media showed infants crying in a ward. This ward did have a few adults, but not nearly enough for the number of babies.

My only response to this article so far:

“Unfortunately they are reacting like we should . Taking it seriously and stopping it. It is upsetting but neccessary.” (Ibid)

Here is my question — WHEN IS IT EVER NECESSARY TO SEPARATE A THREE MONTH OLD FROM ITS MOTHER????

Particularly if the infant is breastfeeding.

I can think of very few situations when it’s OK to separate a mother from a nursing infant. For example, in a situation of abuse. This wasn’t the case with the babies in the Chinese quarantine ward.
