How to manage the pain caused by your hormones
Headaches are no fun. I’m dealing with them a lot more these days, thanks to having had brain surgery a few months ago. One would think I’d be over it by now, but it’s still something I’m dealing with. Of course, I’m not the only one who has to deal with headache pain. It turns out that in the United States, over 100 million sick days are caused by headaches.
Aside from the hit to your productivity at work, having to deal with regular headaches also impacts your social life, your family, your hobbies and your exercise routine. Plus, you’re in PAIN! Not good. Unfortunately for women, thanks to our hormones, we are much more likely to deal with headaches than men.
The same lovely hormones that gave us breasts also can cause us to suffer. Well, you already know about PMS, cramps, and the complications of pregnancy and menopause. But did you know that your headaches could also have a hormonal cause?
Prior to adolescence, boys and girls get headaches with equal frequency. After puberty, however, girls are more likely to get headaches until after menopause. Women can keep a calendar to help figure out if there is a pattern to their headaches. If they always get a headache right before their period…
