Being Diagnosed With Cancer Was Best Day Of My Life

It all depends on your perspective

Me in my 30s, before cancer. Yes, I lost all that hair.

When I was in my 30s, I noticed that my right breast was pitted like a grapefruit or orange peel. I went to see my doctor who sent me to an oncologist.

When my husband and I arrived at his office, he panicked.

Turns out I had inflammatory breast disease.

At the time, 85% of the people diagnosed died within 18 months. Very few people made it 5 years or longer.

Yet, 20 years later, I am still alive. It’s true, I am currently fighting a metastatic brain, lung, and liver cancer. However, I would never have survived as long as I did if I hadn’t been diagnosed early.

Because I went to the doctor immediately upon detecting something wrong and because they diagnosed me correctly, I am still here today.

This has taught me a lesson on perspective.

While it is hard to hear bad news, the sooner you find out that you have a problem, the better able you are to deal with it.

Once I knew I had cancer, I made dramatic changes to my lifestyle based on the news.

I quit my job to remove that stress from my life.
