According to Hollywood Reporter, the movie Bros’ had a dismal opening. After, apparently Billy Eichner posted several unhappy tweets.

Is it really due to homophobia that people didn’t go see the movie?

If that’s the reason, how come, according to the article, the LGBTQ community also panned the movie?

Maybe the movie just wasn’t that good. Or maybe it’s because it opened the same weekend as the horror movie Smile, in a month when people are more focused on spooky stuff instead of rom-coms.

Here’s the thing.

I was just a kid when Victor/Victoria came out. And it was a hit, even back in 1982, when the United States was much more homophobic. The movie was based on a 1933 German film, Victor und Victoria. The American version starred Julie Andrews along with other amazing acting talent such as James Garner, Robert Preston, and Lesley Ann Warren.

The movie was a hit. It got 3 stars from Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times who called it both funny and warm. It got a positive review from Todd McCarthy of Variety as well. And it has had ongoing popularity, scoring high on Rotten Tomatoes.
