The first time I had cancer, I lost my hair to chemo. I didn’t get a wig, but I did get a pretty hat. It was cute and protected my head. It also made me feel feminine.

One of the things that can hit women hard when they have cancer is feeling like they’ve lost essential parts of being a woman — losing your breast for example, or your hair can affect your sense of self.

This latest go-round with cancer, I refused to do chemo. But I agreed to do radiation. I didn’t think I’d lose my hair, but I did, because they had to radiate my brain.

Lovely friends gave me pretty hats to wear.

But this time around, I also decided to buy a wig for special occasions. Here are some tips that may help you if you go that route after losing your hair to cancer.

Pick a wig that makes you feel pretty
