Cat Fights Back Against Coyote
It got away, but yours might not — please keep your pets inside at night!
I have a greenbelt near my house. There are coyotes who use the area. Sometimes at night I can hear them howling.
I have nothing against coyotes per se. I even find their night songs spine-tingling. But I want them to keep their distance.
Coyotes are an important keystone species. They control the population of rats and other rodents and maintain the balance of nature. Unfortunately, a coyote will see your cat or dog as prey.
As a video of a coyote attacking a cat shows, coyotes can be quite persistent in trying to catch what they consider to be food.
The video was captured by a homeowner Tony Gray’s surveillance camera in Surfside Beach, Texas. It’s a town of 482 residents on the Gulf of Mexico.
Gray of course posted about the incident on social media. He wrote on Facebook that a coyote went up the stairs to his beach house’s rear deck. There, a melee occurred between the cat and the coyote.
For those who love cats, the footage is harrowing. Thankfully the cat escapes, but it is obviously terrified. And no wonder. At least twice, it was almost captured by the predator.
