Cats Like the Smelliest Food

Well, dogs do too, but cats expect it

Opal takes over a flower pot. Thankfully I hadn’t planted it as it is now a cat seat for the garden.

Cats have certain ways they like the world to work. And since cats are all unique, what one cat likes may or may not be what any other cat wants.

For example, my cat Snoopy liked to go on walks with us. She would follow us like a puppy and people would stop and ask us if we knew a cat was trailing us. We would explain that yes, she was our cat, and she liked to go on walks. Which led to getting our neighbors better, always a good thing when you live in tree-lined Texas neighborhoods.

My cat Opal will also go on walks with me, but in a totally different fashion. Instead of walking on the sidewalk a few feet behind, catching up and stopping with us at intersections, and following other such rules, Opal prefers to dash around.

She will run behind me, stop and roll in a patch of sunny driveway, then run underneath a car and watch me, stalker-like, then run onto the lawn a few houses up and wait for me there, then repeat these seemingly random movements until I head home.

Snoopy was a regal cat and while she was affectionate, it was more of a distant fondness. She liked to be in the same room and sometimes would deign to be petted or sit beside you, but cuddling was limited.
