Annie — A Precious Rescue Dog
The photograph above is of my dog Annie, who passed away this year. And yes, I still miss her. I don’t think we ever totally stop missing loved ones that pass away, and Annie was very loved.
I only had her for about 3 1/2 years. I adopted her in 2015, right before I flew to Greece. I know, a ridiculous time to get a dog, right? But I saw her profile and knew she was meant to be my dog.
Unfortunately, Annie had been horribly abused. At one point, after I noticed her limping, the vet took X-rays and we found that she had buckshot in her hind quarters. Yes, someone had taken a shotgun to my dog.
Who does such a thing?
Because there was no way to operate and remove all those bits of metal, Annie suffered from chronic pain.
It breaks my heart to think of what she had to go through, particularly because she was so sweet. Friends have told me Annie was the sweetest dog they’d met. She was pure love despite the horrible abuse she’d suffered.
