Celebrating Easter and Ramadan

Lots of love and laughter this week

I just got home from an amazing Palm Sunday service. We were all given palm branches to wave during the music, which was fun. The kids in particular got a kick out of it, and it helped us to relate to the story. Later this week we will have Maundy Thursday, the stations of the Cross on Friday, and then Easter Sunday.

This week is Holy Week for Christians. But it’s also a time when many other groups celebrate. On March 20th was Ostara. A friend sent me flower-filled pictures from the ceremony she hosted that day. Starting on the 15th of this month will be Passover, which is celebrated by Jews. And this whole month is Ramadan — when devout Muslims fast from dawn until dusk.

When I lived in New York City, I would celebrate Seder with my Jewish friends. Where I live now, I don’t live close enough to do so. But I have Muslim friends who have invited me to join them for a Ramadan Feast. Which I am really looking forward to as I’ve never participated before.

Today, to extend the celebration for my Hindu Mom, I got us pani puri, bhel and aloo tikki for lunch. These are three of her favorite treats.
