Champions Fail.
Then they overcome.
The other day, I overheard someone playing a trumpet. Badly.
I was curious, and I detected the noise was coming from my neighbor’s house, so I went over to check it out. Turns out her son was learning how to play. He had just started a few weeks ago.
I thought for a 12 year old just getting started he was doing well, but he didn’t think so.
He stopped playing while his mother and I were visiting and he cried in frustration. He said “I just can’t do it! I keep trying and trying, but it’s too hard!”
She hugged him and told him he could rest for a little while before he finished his practice.
She was trying to support him.
His parents are not wealthy, so paying to buy him an instrument and other materials was not something they could do lightly. However, they encourage their children to learn new things. They make it clear that they will love their children regardless.
In this case, they discussed learning an instrument with him and explained that if they bought the trumpet for him, he would be expected to spend time every day practicing. They expected him to commit to doing it for the semester.
My perspective: Champions fail. Then they overcome.
