Changing Scope of Christmas Celebrations This Year
I just don’t have the energy to do more
I have been super tired lately due to cancer, but still wanted to celebrate Christmas. I had visions of sugarplums floating through my head but I just don’t have the energy to make them a reality this year.
I have had certain Christmas traditions for years, or even decades.
When I was married, we’d get a real Christmas tree for our living room when we lived in a house. When we lived in an apartment, we didn’t do the tree but we had other Christmas decorations.
We had a wooden spinning Nativity set that came from Mexico — you lit the candles at the base to get it to spin. The camels and angels spun around the Holy Family.
Unlit it looked tacky but once you got the room dark and lit the candles, it was lovely. The candlelight created patterns of shadows on the ceiling that were just as pretty as the spinning carosel.
We had Christmas stockings which we filled with treats — for each other and for our pets. There were also presents to open under the tree (if we had one) or by the coffee table (if we didn’t).
I would also set out my series of boxes, one fitting inside the other, which showed the Nativity scene. The largest box was the Holy…
