Congress Dithers, Americans Suffer
Do Democrats have a good reason for voting against aid?
I don’t care about your gender or skin color or political affiliation or religious beliefs. If you’re an American who is suffering right now due to Covid-19, I want you to get the help you need.
That is why I am amazed that Congress can’t quickly pass legislation that takes care of those in need in the face of this ongoing crisis.
This virus affects both red states and blue ones. It doesn’t care about how much money we make or how educated we are. It doesn’t discriminate based on our sexual preferences. It can hurt any of us and so affects all of us.
It’s a nasty bug that’s hit us hard. Now is the time for our political leaders to do what we voted them to do. To lead.
Apparently the bill that Mitch McConnell brought before the Senate had problems. However, as Susan Collins pointed out in an impassioned speech, there were methods in place to allow some of these issues to be dealt with. While it would be great to have a perfect bill, in a time of crisis we can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Better to have a bill that starts to provide relief to at least some people than to wait while things get worse. Better to compromise and help at least some people…
