Ah, romance. It’s a wild, sweet ride. We live in a cynical age but still our hearts long for that meaningful connection with someone we find attractive. So what’s a guy to do?

Find opportunities to talk to women, I’d say. Join Meetups, go to parties, get active in your church or synagogue or temple. All the standard advice, right?

But here’s a bit of advice that I’m going to give you on top of all that — when you try to decide who to ask out on a date, don’t pay so much attention to how she looks. Instead, go with how she makes you feel.

How you feel when you’re with her is a much better gauge of compatibility

Sure, she may look like a cold beer on a hot day, but does she make you feel like she cares about you, or do you feel anxious and unsure? Do you feel like she accepts you, or do you feel that you will have to earn her love?

Since some men are visual creatures, it can be hard for them to figure this out. So here’s a trick — call her on the phone.
