Despising Trump but not his supporters

Some of them are kind people

Life is full of dichotomies.

I have friends who are vegan, but they feed their cats meat. After all, felines are obligate carnivores.

I have friends who support green energy but will fight against having windmills in their back yard.

I know men who say they are feminists, but they still mansplain.

Are these people hypocrites?

No, they are human beings.

People are complex. They are messy. And one thing I’ve learned — it’s best not to pigeonhole them.

So… I despise Trump. I can’t help it. I was appalled when he won the Republican nomination. I was shocked when he became President.

Yet… I have friends who voted for him.

And, guess what. They are still my friends.

Because they are kind people. They are not racist or mean spirited. Some of them are black or Hispanic. They donate time and money to charities such as Habitat for Humanity and the local animal shelter. They brought over food for me when I got cancer and sat with my mom while I was going through surgery.

So, no, I don’t judge them based on their support for a despicable con man.
