Do Black Lives Really Matter?
Or is Political Correctness more important?
Recently there was some controversy surrounding the Trump administration. Well, what else is new, right?
Trump likes the media spotlight and the media always seems obliged to give it to him. I am not sure how productive that is for our national discourse, but usually it at least provides some entertainment value.
The kerfuffle that caught my attention this time was the one between the media and the Surgeon General.
In case you didn’t realize it, Trump’s Surgeon General is Jerome Adams, an American anesthesiologist and a vice admiral in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps who also happens to be black.
What caused the controversy?
Well, during a daily briefing, Dr. Adams addressed the fact that Covid-19 is hitting black and Hispanic communities harder by reminding those communities that they “are not helpless” and asking them, in addition to hand-washing and social distancing, to “avoid alcohol, tobacco, and drugs… check in on your mother; she wants to hear from you right now.”
