Do We Express Gratitude?

Or only ask God for help?

Recently I received good results when it came to one of my cancer markers. The oncologists call my condition “stable.” However, when you are dealing with a type IV metastatic cancer… this is really very good.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, I prayed. I was pretty honest, though, and my prayers were often angry, sad, or disgruntled. I would rage at God.

I realize a lot of people find this disrespectful, but I believe in having a totally honest relationship with my Father. I can do that more easily than some because I actually loved my father. We fought like cats and dogs sometimes, but we ended up in a good place before he died.

I have had friends who had broken or nonexistent relationships with their fathers, and in some cases, instead of viewing God as a loving Father, they view Her as a loving mother.

Biblically, there is nothing that describes God as a white man with a white beard and blue eyes. Recently a Christian book called The Shack came out, and God was portrayed as a middle-aged black woman.

The point of this — the actual appearance of God is deliberately left ambiguous. However, His love for us is never in doubt.

How we relate to God is more important that what He looks like.
