Dressing Up Is Fun
For both men and women
When I was in graduate school, a male friend of mine told me he loved to wear skirts. Because it wasn’t socially acceptable to wear a more feminine outfit, he stuck to kilts. He had Scottish heritage, so he honored his clan’s tartan pattern when he did so.
He told me he loved the way the kilt felt and found it very comfortable.
Here’s a thought — is there any reason a man can’t wear a skirt?
Women have been wearing “men’s clothes” for decades. Gorgeous Hollywood Golden Age actresses wore men’s suits and trousers and looked amazing in them.
Yet until recently men didn’t have many options.
Many women love to see a man in a kilt… there has got to be some reason that Outlander was such a big hit…
And of course it’s not just a cis thing. There are non-binary people, trans people, etc. At some point we have to stop stereotyping. People should wear what makes them feel good. They should wear what makes them feel attractive.
This also speaks to the area of fat-shaming and height-discrimination.
If an overweight woman wants to wear a vivid purple corset or a short guy wants to wear platform heels… why not? Let’s prioritize joy over conformity.
