Early Morning Bone Broth

A productive use of insomnia

In my fight against cancer, I try to emphasisize clean, healthy food. Of course I am not perfect, and, for example, yesterday, after an MRI, I had lunch with a friend at a national chain. So, yeah.

However, most of my meals these days are home cooked. That makes them not only healthier, but also less expensive.

I try to emphasize a variety of vegetables and fruits in my diet, but protein is also important.

I’ve been buying my animal protein from what I consider decent sources lately.

What do I mean by decent?

To me it’s two factors:

  • The animal is treated decently
  • The meat is healthy

That means I spend more on animal protein because I buy the pastured, humanely raised stuff. However, I eat small to moderate portions. I have 3–4 ounces about 3 times a week. A couple of times a week I’ll have wild-caught fish, but ususally that means tuna from a tin made into a delicious salad. Other meals are a combination of rice and beans and veggies, though I have pastured eggs most mornings.

However, it’s important I do have animal protein on the regular, because otherwise my body has a hard time fighting the cancer.
