Eating To Fight Cancer

How I’ve changed my diet

What you eat is an important part of fighting cancer. Of course, it’s not the only thing — getting your blood flowing, for example, and good rest also matter.

However, regarding diet — you want to eat in a way that strengthens your body and your immune system.

There are several foods that help do this:

  • Protein: In order to build your white and red blood cells, you need adequate levels of protein. Some sources say that you should stick to fish, poultry, and legumes while avoiding red meats. I disagree — as long as the red meat you are eating is totally grass fed, you don’t char it, and you avoid processed meats.
  • Healthy Fats: While trans-fats are horrible, there are several types of fats, such as olive oil, that are healthy. Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish, are good for you.
  • Fruits: People think you should avoid eating fruit because of the sugar. They forget that fruit also has vitamins and minerals. It can also improve hydration. Fresh berries, an orange, or a peach can satisfy your sweet tooth in a healthy way. Juice drinks, sodas and pumpkin spice lattes — not great options. However, many cancer patients use freshly squeezed juices to provide easily digestible nutrition. The key is to keep sugar content reasonably low while boosting…
