Eating Too Many Treats

I am fighting a type IV cancer and that means there are certain lifestyle choices I make on a regular basis.

I have to make sure I always have a good electrolyte balance. If that goes out of whack, I could end up in the ER.

I buy, cook, and eat mostly organic produce. And so on.

But today I cheated and I am planning to do so tomorrow as well.

I had a grueling long meeting this morning with my pulmonologist. He had to certify that I still required my O2 saturation device. I still use it a couple of times a week, so I consider it essential.

But given the force of the bean counter brigade on the medical profession… they have to document and justify everything.

So they ran several tests on me that showed that yes, if I walked long enough down the corridors I needed the device. It wasn’t even that long a walk — maybe 3 minutes? It was enough that I was out of breath and my O2 got down to 88.

Of course it only stayed at that range long enough for me to catch my breath and then it rapidly went back up to 92. Not great but not awful either.

But the point was not that I be at death’s door, but that the device would provide me with benefit. At least, that is what I, the nurse…
