Exactly. We know that Princess Diana also suffered... But look at all the good she did! I would admire Meghan a lot more if she used her status as a platform to help others instead of a venue from which to whine...

This is not to downplay the seriousness of mental illness. I hope that she is getting the best possible care for depression or any other issue she has, and you have my deepest sympathy for having to deal with such painful issues. I can't even imagine how difficult it must be.

However, pain is part of the human condition - I am fighting a metastatic cancer, I have a friend who is paralyzed from the waist down due to an accident, I have friends whose children have died.

We can and should feel compassion for each other, but I think it's toxic to elevate victimhood to a form of heroism. Merely being a victim does not make one a hero - it's what one does that defines one's character. Does that make any sense?
