Except Russia has made it clear it wants to negotiate a peace ... the whole mess started because Ukraine violated a 2014 treaty with Russia. Russia is historically paranoid and it does not want Ukraine joining NATO because it fears the enemy on its border.

If Ukraine had not violated its treaty with Russia, then this invasion would not have happened. Russia has no interest in conquering Europe. But it IS paranoid about having NATO on its borders.
