First Chemo Session Went Well

I had my first chemo session today.
Honestly, it went a lot better than I had expected.
My boyfriend took me and insisted on doing everything for me, from carrying my bag full of warm lap robes and some headphones so I could listen to music. He provided an arm for me to hold on to and got me hot tea when I needed it. He was absolutely wonderful.
I had a port installed last week, so we didn’t have to fuss with an IV. Something I remember from the first time I did chemo 18 years ago.
However, oncology has come a long way since then.
First off, they gave me a bunch of drugs prior to the chemo. These were to alleviate some of the side effects that patients commonly experience, like nausea. The nurse explained each drug to me before she put it through my port. She also checked my birthday for each vial — to make sure I got the correct meds!
The chemo, being my first, took a long time. That’s because they had it dripping VERY slowly. She told me the first time they do that deliberately and have me sit very close to the nurse’s station so they can monitor for any bad side effects.
