Gas Prices Continue To Rise

Why are they higher in certain places?

According to the AAA website, on the day I wrote this article, 3/8/2022, the average U.S. price for unleaded gas was $4.173. However, where you live plays a large role in the price you are paying at the pump.

In states like Texas, as you can see from the handy map provided at the site (just click on the link to see), the average price is less than $4. A click on the state you live in, on the map, will give you the price broken down by county.

California, OTOH, has an average price of $5.444, but that doesn’t paint the entire picture. The Shell station on Olympic Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles County has regular unleaded at $6.99 a gallon.

It’s gotten so bad that even Elon Musk put out a tweet saying we need to increase oil and gas output, even though this will negatively impact Tesla. But Musk pointed out, in another tweet, that sustainable energy solutions will take longer to accomplish. Which is true.

Renewables are a long term solution

One reason we are still using gas for most vehicles is that, despite government subsidies, most people can’t afford an electric car. Someone making $15 an hour is not going to plunk the money down $55,600 for an electric vehicle. On the other hand, once someone…
