One of many reasons I fell in love with this city

Back in 2018, before life was turned around by the pandemic, a friend of mine and I took a trip to New Orleans.

I have nothing but praise for this cultural mecca. The food, the music, the art, the history, the architecture, the gothic underbelly, and the joie de vivre— there is so much to love about his place.

I also enjoyed interacting with the people.

One incident, in particular, comes to mind.

My friend and I got onto a crowded trolley. While I tottered around, holding the pole, a young man got up.

“Please have my seat,” he said.

He was a young man with multiple tattoos and piercings. The stereotype says that such a person would be anti-social. But this young man was chivalrous and gracious.

I thanked him and took the seat. The elderly woman beside me nodded her head in approval.

“His Momma done trained him right,” she told me.
