Homeowners Should Challenge Appraised Value of Their Home

A realtor in the Dallas area fights for his clients

Apparently some people can save a lot of money on their tax bills by challenging the valuation of their homes.

A realtor in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area was doing that for his clients. Chandler Crouch has apparently been helping people protest for years.

This angered two employees of the Tarrant Appraisal District (TAD) and so they filed a complaint against Crouch. Which would not have been an issue, except they did so on company time. They also used Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation letterhead.

Because of this, TAD officials are meeting on Thursday to consider terminating the two employees. One of them is Randy Armstrong, who is TAD’s director of residential appraisal. The other is TAD Chief Appraiser Jeff Law.

According to the complaint, Crouch testified to the review board that a house in Colleyville had a market value of around $880,000 when he had listed the property for approximately $2.5 million.

Crouch responded to this accusation by stating that he had not violated any law by listing a house for sale and then representing that client during the hearing. Crouch also maintains that the larger figure represents a…
