I adopted an older dog who had experienced trauma, she was great. In fact, all of my pets are rescues. I think if anything, they bond even more closely with you.

My only concern with a dog like a pit — they have much more powerful jaws than, say, a chihuaua. Same with German Shepherds, Rottweilers, etc. What that means — you have to be a responsible dog owner. It is never the dog’s fault if it is badly behaved — it is the owner’s responsibility to train the dog.

That being said, I much prefer these larger dogs. In my experience, given love and proper training, they become gentle giants. I’ve seen a lot more aggression from the tiny yappy dogs than from so called scary ones.

Your dog deserved a good home. Good on you for giving him one.
