I agree with you as a child of Indian immigrants. My parents were working class for much of my childhood, however, they emphasized education and so, despite going to public schools, I went to MIT.

I think there were many children (black, brown, and white) who needed a helping hand more than I did - they might be raised by a single mother, or be impoverished in rural Appalachia, or worry about shootings in their urban neighborhood.

Because I lived in an immigrant area, there was almost no crime and so I could focus on my studies the way that many urban black children cannot. So yes, I agree with you. I didn't NEED help the way many others did. At the same time, rich black people like the Obamas - they can afford to send their children to the best private schools.
