I always tip 20% if the service is good and more if it’s exceptional. If all I get is a $2 cup of coffee I tip $1 because that is the minimum I will tip, but if the waitress was super nice and refilled my cup several times ’cause I sat there for a while, I’ll leave her $5 on the $2 cup of coffee. I figure her time is money.

BUT… I don’t tip if I’m getting coffee at the register, the person just pours it for me and gives it to me. I have not tipped when I pick up a take-out order before, after reading this I might… I do tip delivery people.

If the service is awful, that is also reflected in my tip.

I’ve never been a waitress but my dad (who was from India) always tipped well and taught us the importance of doing so. And being poor is no excuse. My parents were working class, they always tipped. If you don’t have the money to leave 20%, then don’t eat out. Or order something less expensive on the menu so you can still leave a decent tip.
