I appreciate someone who actually did the work to find out the facts. the fact is, people lived in a different time back then with different ideas of what was acceptable. on battle fields, amputations were sometimes done with no anesthetic besides alcohol. people suffered in ways we would never tolerate today. I am glad that we have progressed in this area!

Don't get me wrong, I don't think racism is OK BUT... when slavery was legal, most people didn't think much about it. it blows our minds because we know how horrible slavery is, but I would not be surprised if people back then were blind to that reality simply because they never questioned if it was actually OK. Just like today, there are many things we tolerate that future generations will be horrified about.
