I Attend a Church That Emphasizes Love
We have a diverse congregation
There are gay people in my church. There are also non-binary members. Our pastor is a woman. In today’s service, one of the speakers was a black man from Nigeria. The lady who greeted people is an Asian-American woman from California. I’m not the only Indian-American in church.
One of the gray hairs is a slightly plump woman who rides a Harley. Two other gray hairs play the backup and bass guitar during worship. We used to have a young Hispanic woman as music leader. After she left to go to seminary, a young white man took her place.
Some congregants play D&D. Some are artists and musicians.
There are also plenty of cowboys — this is Texas, after all!
But we don’t insist you wear cowboy boots or drive a truck to attend our church.
What do we want?
We want people who love God and love others.
That’s really all that is necessary to come to our church.
We regularly reach out to our community.
After a recent tornado devastated our area, our church was there to help. There were 630 homes that are damaged. Some were totally destroyed, including the home of one of the families in our church.
