I cannot even imagine what you went through.
I am a minority woman, my parents immigrated to the US in 1971. When we first moved to this country, we had a one room apartment with only a small shower, no bathtub.
But within a couple of years, Dad was able to move us to an apartment with 3 bedrooms so my brother and I each had our own room.
Meanwhile, one of my white friends only had an outhouse until she was in high school.
One of my black friends grew up in a very secure situation but another grew up in poverty and joined the military, which changed his life.
What people don't realize - when it comes to what people have to overcome - while race is part of the equation, there are many other variables in the equation. There are black people who actually live very privileged lives and there are also Asian people who don't do well in school and never make much money... the stereotypes don't give you the personal stories of real people.
