I did NOT state that Australia banned guns. What I ACTUALLY stated:
"Canada, Australia, or the UK when they severely restricted guns in the 1990s". If you are going to disagree with me, that is fine, but please do me the favor of actually reading what I wrote and not putting words in my mouth.
I checked out Wiki on the Australian gun laws and in your country, it is apparently very hard to get a gun legally. Self-defense, for example, was not considered an adequate reason. Of course, this is Wiki, so there are better sources - so if I am wrong, please let me know.
I appreciate your sharing more information about your country, since you live there and I don't.
But the source I cited was NOT a right wing source. At least, the actual data was not -for Table 1 the sources included:
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Australian Institute of Criminology as well as the Home Office of England and Wales.
The first source listed s the FBI, which is NOT a right or left wing group, it is a government agency in the United States that, among other things, tabulates crime statistics.
The resource cited for Australia was: https://www.aic.gov.au/
This is an Australian government agency. I was not aware that in Australia government agencies could be right or left wing!
Of course, it is very easy to be emotional, to make false assumptions and accusations, to refuse to actually look at data before deciding it is propaganda... the difference between myself and many others on this site is that I make decisions based on facts and data, I am open to new information and I have changed my mind on occasion because I am not a fanatic.
If you can offer actual hard data that supports the idea that gun control will reduce murders then I will be happy to concede because they only agenda I have - let's find out how to reduce murders. But I want to do what actually works, not what makes people "feel good".
