I didn't listen to the whole call, but in the beginning, when she calls the police, she refers to two gentlemen who are refusing to buy anything and refusing to leave.

The thing is, Starbucks is a business. They are not a charity or a public space. So patrons are expected to buy something. If I want to just hang out, I go to the park or the library. If I am going to a cafe, I know I have to buy something.

The other day, I was at a neighborhood cafe which I often frequent, and I was lingering with a cup of coffee. But the place started to get really busy, I'd been at the table for a while and the waitress asked me politely if I would mind leaving since they needed to seat others. I said, "no problem" and I left.

I understand that businesses need to make money. They need to pay for their rent, utilities, wages, etc.

Maybe there was a misunderstanding and the two men were waiting for friends to join them, at which point they would all buy something? In which case, why not let the manager know?

Also, if the manager calls the police - why not just leave? Then the problem is solved and you are not arrested. Why linger to be arrested?

Maybe the manager is a racist b*tch; maybe she would have allowed white patrons to linger without buying anything. I don't know. I would hope she would treat whites the exact same way and ask them to leave if they were not buying anything...
