I don’t like the way you phrased the question — “men are allowed to have fun” …. I think grown men and women have the right to make their own choices and are responsible for the consequences. Children are allowed to do things — adults are free agents. When I am in a relationship, I don’t give my partner permission — I’m not his boss. And I would deeply resent it if he tried to order me around, as well.
As far as video games — I play them too. They are fun, but I think it’s good if people spend less time in front of a screen and more time interacting with other people, doing physical activity, etc. This is just my personal opinion and it’s none of my business if someone else wants to spend all of their free time playing video games.
I think when I implied someone was lazy, though, I was using video games as an example. The guy could be spending his time reading a book or building model cars, but if he’s doing a hobby for fun instead of managing his responsibilities, then he’s lazy.
Here are two scenarios that illustrate my point:
Scenario One: A guy gets home from work about an hour before his wife does, since she picks up their son. He starts to play video games. She gets home, he grunt acknowledgment. She makes dinner and takes care of their child. After putting their son to bed, she tries to talk to him, but he ignores her. Right before bedtime he tries to make out and gets angry when she won’t have sex.
Scenario Two: A guy gets home from work an hour before his wife. He takes a half hour to unwind and play games, then starts dinner prep. By the time his family gets home, he’s got most of it done. He gives her a kiss, greets his son, and finishes dinner. The family has a pleasant meal together. He plays a game with his son while she does the dishes and relaxes for a bit. She then helps the child with homework and puts him to bed. The man plays video games. Later, she is more likely to want sex.
In the first case, I’d call the guy lazy and irresponsible. In the second, he’s a good family man. He takes care of his own need to unwind, then makes sure his wife and kid are taken care of before playing games.
