I felt the same way reading her article. I applauded her for pointing out racist words that were no longer acceptable in the modern era, but cringed when she veered into political activism.
It’s really important for a teacher to teach students HOW to express their thoughts, but a teacher should not tell students WHAT they should think about social issues.
I remember a liberal history professor (a white man) who I appreciated. He made his own biases clear at the first lecture but then said his classroom was free-thinking zone. He didn’t expect us to agree with him but to do the research and make the case for whatever conclusions we came up with.
This is the type of attitude that is too rare nowadays in our classrooms.
If the ONLY acceptable viewpoint is the progressive one then the University becomes a primary culprit in the closing of the American mind.
