I grew up in NYC so didn't really see much racism growing up. My junior high was in Astoria so it was mostly white with lots of Greek immigrants, but they weren't racist towards me (a kid if Indian descent) or other mutual friends from China or Korea or South America, at least nothing beyond childish insults when two kids were mad at each other.

However, a few times I encountered white kids from the suburbs, and, yes, there was racism. And they didn't even realize how uncomfortable that made me, and even my white friends found it discomforting. Reading your article helped me understand this dynamic better. The parents and community groom the kids for racism. It's sad.
