I had a friend who drove trucks after he was fired from a tech job. This was back in the '90s. He told me there were some hard things - he didn't like to be away from his family that long. But he made good money and was able to pay for college for his kid. But since then the industry has gotten pretty ugly for a lot of people, which is why turnover is so high.

But for a lot of people with a high school degree, they are willing to put up with some hassles for a six figure salary.

All that being said... yes, automated trucks are probably the wave of the future.

I wonder if we'll all have jobs like George Jetson, pressing buttons a few hours a day?
