I have had black friends from France and have traveled to France so I didn't realize it was this racist. Is it less racist in Paris? I don't know but I am so appalled you had to go through this. You seem like such a nice person, how could they not see that?

I do understand a little bit as my parents are from India and I have heard stories of relatives who moved to the UK having to deal with not being able to find a place to rent, etc. This was back in the 1970s however, and their children and grandchildren are much more accepted.

A good friend of mine here in America hooks up foreign high school students with American families for a term abroad, and so far she has not seen this type of racism, which I am glad about. She helped German, Japanese, Nigerian, Indian, Ghana, French, Swiss, S. Korean, and Trinidadian students prior to the pandemic. From what she told me, the only student that had a hard time was a boy from Japan but I suspect that was due to incompatibility, and they did find an alternative family for him that worked much better.

It makes me angry that those French families would reject you after they volunteered. You deserved so much better from them. I hope you are able to go back some day and that people treat you with respect.
