I hear you. I am more libertarian than anything; once upon a time I would have been considered a traditional liberal because I am for individual freedom.

I am not white but I have no problems voting for an old white guy if that is the best candidate. I think we really do need to be color blind.

One of the fallacies we used to have was that a competent person had to be an older white guy. Now we know that excellence comes in all shapes and sizes and colors and that’s a good thing. But those should not be factors in our decision making process.

To be honest, I do love the fact that Tulsi, for example, is a woman and Samoan. But… those are not reasons to vote for her. With Yang, again, his race is not a criteria. The only criteria that matter — will this person be the leader we need? Can I trust him or her with the welfare of this country?

I wrote an article a while back where I talked about how it might be useful if we changed the format of the debates — a round table for example would give us a better chance to actually know the candidates and move beyond superficial stuff like the way they look or soundbites.
