I like men. I consider myself a feminist but for me that means that everyone has more freedom, choices, justice and fairness. I think it’s important to address the concerns of women but we can do it without immediately accusing all men of being rapists.

The reality is that we are all, both men and women, navigating a complex world.

Both men and women crave a purpose, desire relationships, want to be understood.

If we want a fair and just society then we need to address the abuse of boys and men as well as the issues faced by women. So obviously the #MeToo movement was important, but, as an example, what about the men who get raped in prison?

This is something that’s bothered me for years, ever since I asked myself — why do comedians joke about men being raped in prison? How is rape ever a laughing matter?

If a man commits a crime, he should be punished for the crime, but that punishment should not include being tortured.

Of course, in the process of reforming the prison system, we could also address the abuses that go on in women’s prisons… but it shouldn’t be an either/or choice.

If someone is being abused, I should not care about the person’s gender, race or any of that. The only thing that matters is that it’s a human being.

(BTW, here’s an article I wrote recently about friendship: https://medium.com/@shefaliohara/men-screw-up-female-friendships-3cc81cacee86)
