I saw the Blind Side and really enjoyed it BUT I didn't realize they significantly altered the facts. I now want to read Oher's book to find out the truth. Given how amazing his story is, why did they feel the need to alter the facts so much?

The one area I disagree with you - I don't have a problem with an older black person befriending a child. It's a mentorship role and older whites are portrayed in those roles as well. It usually speaks to a kind and generous person. In real life, adults also take on these roles. There are even organizations like Big Brothers/Big Sisters to help them mentor youth. I think older folks who can relate to children have a much needed gift. I know when I was a young person, I had both black and white mentors who taught me many things.
