I think it’s mean spirited to hope people “get what they deserve”; however, it’s inevitable that some people will get sick because they are idiots.

I have an issue with “self-righteousness” though. That’s what some people use to deny financial aid to the poor — “if they had been careful with their money like I was” is the mantra.

So OTOH I agree with you, because I think people should behave responsibly. OTOH, I still feel bad for their suffering and would like to help if I can.
