I was not aware of these, so thanks for mentioning them so I could read about them. Ambedkar seems to have been a remarkable person.

The thing is, while Gandhi is revered, there were other great leaders including apparently Ambedkar. One I always admired was Subhas Chandra Bose who was often at loggerheads with Gandhi.

I find both men remarkable in different ways

I do think that the caste system is evil. When I was in college here in the US I knew of several professors originally from India who had changed their last names to get rid of the association with caste, and my own parents married across caste in the 1960s.

Unfortunately, in companies with large numbers of Indian workers, the caste system seems to have a resurgence.
