In some countries, they revere the elderly, or at least respect them. What is going on in these places is appalling. It's one reason people need to save for retirement - so they can afford better options!

My elderly mother lives with me. If I need to, I'd rather hire someone to come help out with her a few hours a day, if I can afford it, then put her into assisted living. While she has some physical issues, she is mentally fine.
